Wisdom teeth
When do wisdom teeth have to be removed?
- Lack of space in the jaw and/or incorrect axial orientation (displacement) of the tooth bud can often lead to problems. The wisdom teeth remain fully or partially stuck in the jaw bone.
- Often the more complicated oral hygiene thus caused leads to inflammation and swelling, which makes it difficult to open the mouth. Even caries of the adjacent teeth cannot be excluded. In acute cases, it can also cause abscesses (accumulations of pus) which affect the whole body.
- Wisdom teeth should be removed as early as possible, because root growth progresses with age and the jawbone is increasingly compressed, making removal far more difficult.
