Paediatric Dentistry
Our young patients have a special place in our heart.
Children are often afraid of the dentist. You as parents can take advance measures at home to create the conditions for making the dentist visit as stress-free as possible:
- Do not threaten your child with the dentist if he or she does not want to brush his or her teeth.
- Tell them - just for example - about the wonderful children’s books that are in the waiting room.
- Talk openly and honestly about your own experiences and emphasise your positive experiences.
- A regular annual dental check-up starting at the age of four helps to defuse the “terrifying” image of the dentist in a child’s imagination.
- When you visit the dental hygienist, it is best to take your child with you: This will help him or her to understand that going to the dentist can be a friendly - even fun - experience: The big toothbrushes, the friendly staff, the funny children’s books, etc.
- It is important that the first visit to the dentist should be a check-up or preventive visit. This is to ensure that the child’s very first memories are not associated with pain or negative comments.
