The Er-YAG laser is used to reduce pain associated with drilling in treatment of caries.

The sterile working method means that fillings which are “drilled” using the Er-YAG laser are of the very highest quality. Only a minimal amount of anaesthetic is needed, if any.

The principle
The substance of the tooth is removed by means of “micro-explosions”. During “drilling” the tooth is not touched, so the vibrations that can be so unpleasant during conventional drilling do not occur.

This method is particularly suitable for children or anxious patients.
